# OWOX Data Marts vs Airbyte for Snowflake: what each one does

Airbyte and OWOX Data Marts solve different halves of the same problem. Airbyte is a data replication platform: it moves data from many sources into Snowflake. OWOX Data Marts loads marketing and commerce sources and then publishes SQL, tables and views as governed Data Marts delivered to Google Sheets, Data Studio, Slack and email. They overlap on ad platform loading, and many teams can run both.

Teams on Snowflake usually meet these two names for the same reason: marketing data has to get into the warehouse, and somebody has to turn it into reports people trust. It is tempting to treat that as one job and pick one tool.

It is two jobs. This comparison is written by OWOX, so read it with that in mind. To keep it honest, everything said about Airbyte below comes from Airbyte’s own documentation, checked in October 2026 and linked, and there are no prices in it, because prices change faster than articles.

## The short answer

* **Airbyte** moves data. It replicates sources into Snowflake, and that is the job its documentation describes.
* **OWOX Data Marts** loads marketing and commerce sources too, but its main job starts after the load: publishing a query, table or view as a named, documented Data Mart and delivering it to the tools business users read.
* They **overlap** on one thing: loading ad platform data into Snowflake.
* For the rest they are **not alternatives**. OWOX Data Marts does not replicate your production database, and a replication platform is not where metric definitions and scheduled reports for business users live.

If your question is “how do I get this source into Snowflake”, you are comparing connectors. If your question is “why do three dashboards disagree about spend”, no connector will answer it.

## What Airbyte is

Airbyte describes itself in [its documentation](https://docs.airbyte.com/) as “an open source data replication platform and context layer for AI agents”. The replication part is the one that matters here: it consolidates data from a large catalogue of sources into warehouses, lakes and databases.

For a Snowflake team that means the following, all from the [Snowflake destination guide](https://docs.airbyte.com/integrations/destinations/snowflake):

* **Two tables per stream.** Each stream is written to a raw table, by default in a schema called `airbyte_internal`, where the record sits in a JSON column. From it Airbyte builds a final table with typed columns.
* **Metadata columns.** The final table carries Airbyte’s own columns next to yours, such as `_AIRBYTE_RAW_ID`, `_AIRBYTE_EXTRACTED_AT` and `_AIRBYTE_META`.
* **Sync modes.** Full refresh and incremental sync, with or without deduplication.
* **Schema changes.** When the source adds a field, the connector adds the column and adjusts types as needed.
* **Loading.** Data is loaded through Snowflake’s internal stage, and key pair authentication is the recommended way to connect.

Airbyte calls the step that produces the final tables [typing and deduping](https://docs.airbyte.com/platform/using-airbyte/core-concepts/typing-deduping), and describes it as the default way datasets are transformed in a warehouse destination after replication. As the name says, it types and deduplicates. Joins across sources and metric definitions are a different kind of work, built on top of the final tables in SQL or a transformation tool of your choice.

That is a clear and useful scope. A replication platform should replicate.

## What OWOX Data Marts is

[OWOX Data Marts](https://www.owox.com/app-signup) works on top of a warehouse you already own. On Snowflake it does three things.

**It loads marketing and commerce sources.** Connectors for ad platforms and shops write into tables in your Snowflake account, on a schedule. Each connector is a Data Mart of its own.

![Data Setup tab of a Facebook Ads connector Data Mart in OWOX Data Marts, showing the FacebookMarketing source, the Snowflake database, schema and table it writes to, and the output schema with keys and field descriptions – collected data lands in your own account](https://cdn.owox.com/www/content-marketing-article/owox-vs-airbyte-for-snowflake/screens/1.png/public)

**It publishes definitions.** A Data Mart can also be a SQL query, a table or a view that already exists in Snowflake, whoever loaded it. Publishing gives it a name, an owner and an output schema where every field has a type, an alias and a description.

![SQL Data Mart in OWOX Data Marts on Snowflake with a channel-by-day query in the editor and a “Valid SQL code” check – the analyst’s query becomes a named definition](https://cdn.owox.com/www/content-marketing-article/owox-vs-airbyte-for-snowflake/screens/2.png/public)

**It delivers.** From a Data Mart you create reports to Google Sheets, Data Studio, Slack or email, each with its own columns and schedule. Business users can also pull a published Data Mart themselves from a [spreadsheet](/product/spreadsheets), and AI Insights and MCP read the same definitions. If finance has asked for revenue answers in an AI chat, [governed AI analytics on Snowflake](/blog/articles/ai-analytics-on-snowflake) compares this with Snowflake’s own Cortex Analyst.

![Destinations tab of a Snowflake Data Mart in OWOX Data Marts listing Data Studio, Email, Slack and a Google Sheets report with a successful last run – one definition is delivered to several places](https://cdn.owox.com/www/content-marketing-article/owox-vs-airbyte-for-snowflake/screens/3.png/public)

Two things it does not do. It **does not transform your data**: the SQL is yours, and OWOX Data Marts runs it as written. And it is **not a general replication tool**: it has no connector for your application database or for most back-office systems.

## Side by side

| | Airbyte | OWOX Data Marts |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What it is | An open source data replication platform, in its own words | Data Marts on top of your warehouse: connectors, published definitions and delivery |
| What lands in Snowflake | A raw table and a typed final table per stream, with Airbyte metadata columns | One table per endpoint, with the fields you selected |
| Keeping rows current | Full refresh or incremental sync, with or without deduplication | Incremental runs that re-import a lookback window and merge on the endpoint’s keys |
| When the source adds a field | The connector adds the column and adjusts types | You add the field to the Data Mart, and the connector adds the column |
| After the load | Typing and deduping into final tables | Publish SQL, tables and views as documented Data Marts, and deliver them to Google Sheets, Data Studio, Slack and email |
| Licence | Open source | Open-source core, with a self-managed option |

The Airbyte column is drawn from its documentation as checked in October 2026. It lists what those pages state, and nothing about what Airbyte does not do.

## Where they overlap: loading ad platforms

If the only thing you need is Facebook, Google, LinkedIn or TikTok ad data in Snowflake, both tools can put it there. The tables look different.

**With Airbyte** you get the raw and final tables described above, with Airbyte’s metadata columns, at the grain the source connector defines.

**With OWOX Data Marts** you choose an endpoint and the fields, and get one table merged on that endpoint’s keys. Scheduled runs re-import a lookback window, two days by default, so late conversions update rows already loaded. One Snowflake detail to know: the connector creates quoted, case-sensitive names, so queries use `"PUBLIC"` and quoted columns. The guides for [Facebook Ads](/blog/articles/facebook-ads-to-snowflake-data-marts), [Google Ads](/blog/articles/google-ads-data-snowflake-owox) and [LinkedIn Ads](/blog/articles/linkedin-ads-to-snowflake) show the tables and the SQL.

Neither result is a report. Both are source-shaped tables that still need the same next step: one query that maps each platform’s columns to a shared set, so that “spend” means one thing.

## Where they do not overlap: after the load

This is the part a connector comparison misses.

Once the tables are in Snowflake, the work that decides whether people trust the numbers begins. Somebody writes the query that unifies the channels. Somebody decides whether revenue includes refunds. Somebody has to get the result in front of the marketing lead in the tool she already opens, and keep it current.

Without a place to keep those decisions, they end up in dashboards and spreadsheet formulas, written again each time and slightly differently. That is where metric drift comes from, and it happens whichever tool loaded the data.

OWOX Data Marts is built for that step. The definition lives once, as a Data Mart with documented fields.

![Output Schema of a Data Mart in OWOX Data Marts on Snowflake, listing each field with its type and a plain-language description – the definition travels with the data](https://cdn.owox.com/www/content-marketing-article/owox-vs-airbyte-for-snowflake/screens/4.png/public)

Reports and self-service pulls read that definition. It is not a semantic layer to model for months: you plug in SQL you already have, publish it and schedule it. [Snowflake as a reusable reporting layer](/blog/articles/snowflake-reusable-reporting-layer) describes the pattern from the analyst’s side.

## Using both

For many teams this is the sensible arrangement, and nothing about either tool prevents it.

1. **Airbyte replicates** what OWOX Data Marts has no connector for: the application database, the CRM, billing, support.
2. **OWOX Data Marts connectors load** the ad platforms and the shop, where field selection and lookback handling are tuned for marketing data.
3. **Analysts write SQL** over all of it, Airbyte’s final tables included. Those tables are ordinary Snowflake tables, so a Data Mart can be defined on them as a table, a view or a query.
4. **OWOX Data Marts publishes and delivers** the results.

The data stays in your Snowflake account throughout. Either tool can be replaced later without moving history.

## How to choose

Ask what is actually missing.

* **A source is not in Snowflake, and it is a database or an operational system.** That is replication. Look at Airbyte.
* **Ad platform and shop data is not in Snowflake.** Either can do it. Choose OWOX Data Marts if the same team also needs the reports, so loading and delivery sit in one place.
* **The data is there, and reports disagree or arrive by export.** That is a definitions and delivery problem. A replication tool will not change it. Look at OWOX Data Marts.
* **Business users want numbers without asking an analyst.** Same answer. [Self-service marketing analytics on Snowflake](/blog/articles/snowflake-self-service-marketing-analytics) walks through it.
* **You need both sides.** Run both.

One practical test settles most cases. Take the report your team is asked for most often, and write down every step between the source and the person reading it. Mark which steps are “get the data in” and which are “agree what it means and send it”. The longer list tells you which tool you are short of.

## FAQ

## Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add OWOX Data Marts to a Snowflake stack that already uses Airbyte?

Connect Snowflake as a storage in OWOX Data Marts, then create Data Marts on the tables Airbyte already maintains, using a table, a view or your own SQL as the definition. Describe the fields in the output schema, attach reports to Google Sheets or Data Studio and add triggers. Nothing in the Airbyte setup has to change.

What does Airbyte write into Snowflake?

According to Airbyte's Snowflake destination documentation, checked in October 2026, each stream is written to a raw table, by default in the airbyte\_internal schema, and to a final table with typed columns plus Airbyte metadata columns. It supports full refresh and incremental sync with or without deduplication, and adds columns when the source schema changes.

Does OWOX Data Marts replace a replication tool like Airbyte?

Only for the sources it has connectors for, which are ad platforms, shops and other marketing sources. It is not a general replication tool and has no connector for an application database or most back-office systems. For those, use a replication platform and publish the resulting tables through OWOX Data Marts.

Which tool should load ad platform data into Snowflake?

Both can. With OWOX Data Marts you choose an endpoint and fields and get one table merged on that endpoint's keys, with a lookback window for late conversions, and the same project then delivers the reports. Choose by what else you need: broad replication of other systems points to Airbyte, reporting and delivery to OWOX Data Marts.

Can OWOX Data Marts and Airbyte be used together on Snowflake?

Yes. A common arrangement is Airbyte replicating databases and operational systems, OWOX Data Marts connectors loading ad platforms and shops, and analysts writing SQL over all of it. Airbyte's final tables are ordinary Snowflake tables, so a Data Mart can be defined on them as a table, a view or a query, then published and delivered.

How does OWOX Data Marts keep metrics consistent across reports?

An analyst publishes a SQL query, table or view as a Data Mart with an output schema: each field has a type, an alias and a description. Reports to Google Sheets, Data Studio, Slack and email, and self-service pulls from the spreadsheet extension, all read that one definition. OWOX Data Marts does not transform the data; the SQL stays the analyst's.

Why is loading data into Snowflake not enough for reporting?

A loaded table has the shape of its source. Reports need decisions on top: how channels map to shared columns, what revenue includes, which date applies. If those decisions are made separately in each dashboard and spreadsheet, the numbers drift apart. Keeping each definition once, as a published Data Mart, is what stops that, whichever tool did the loading.

What is the difference between OWOX Data Marts and Airbyte for Snowflake?

Airbyte is a data replication platform: it moves data from sources into Snowflake as raw and typed final tables. OWOX Data Marts loads marketing and commerce sources and then publishes SQL queries, tables and views as documented Data Marts, delivered to Google Sheets, Data Studio, Slack and email. They overlap on loading ad platform data and otherwise do different jobs.
