A conceptual model in DBMS is a high-level representation of a database structure that defines the key entities, their attributes, and relationships, without involving technical details or physical implementation. **1 min** read · Updated June 4, 2025 · [Data Modeling](/blog/topics/data-modeling) A conceptual model is the plain-language map of a database. It lists the things a business tracks, such as customers, orders, products and campaigns, the key facts about each, and how they relate. It has no data types, keys or platform details, so marketers, analysts and engineers can agree on it before anyone builds a table. For example, an order model says that a customer places orders, an order contains products, and a campaign brought the customer in. Whether the campaign ends up as a column or as its own table is decided later, in the logical and physical models. ## Why it matters for reporting Reports that combine ad platforms, web analytics and a CRM only match when everyone means the same thing by “customer” or “conversion”.
