S01 · Why teams pick OWOX

Why Collect Open Holidays Data Into Your Warehouse With OWOX?

Sales dip in the week of a public holiday, and the dashboard shows a drop. Without the calendar next to the numbers, someone has to guess whether demand fell or the shops were closed. The Open Holidays connector puts the calendar in your warehouse so you can join it to your data and check.

Collect to your warehouse

The data lands in your warehouse, not in OWOX, so you own it. Every connector is included in every OWOX Cloud plan, with no per-connector bill.

Zero-maintenance syncs

The connector is open source under the MIT license, so you can read the code. A Connector Trigger runs it on the schedule you set.

Full-funnel joins

Join the calendar to orders, traffic or ad spend in a Data Mart. The SQL behind every join stays visible.

How it works

R01 · Collect

Collect All Your Open Holidays Data With Zero Engineering

The connector has one endpoint in the OWOX catalog, Public Holidays. It covers public holidays for different countries and languages, is a time series and lands in a table named open_holidays_public_holidays. The table has seven fields.

Field Type What it holds
id STRING A unique identifier for the holiday
date DATE The date of the holiday
name STRING The holiday’s name in the requested language
type STRING The type of holiday, such as public or school
regionalScope STRING The regional scope of the holiday
temporalScope STRING The temporal scope of the holiday
nationwide BOOLEAN Whether the holiday applies nationwide

The connector documentation says the source also covers school holidays and holiday transfer data. The source needs no credentials. To start:

  1. Add a storage to receive the data: Google BigQuery, Snowflake, AWS Redshift, AWS Athena or Databricks.
  2. Create a Connector Data Mart and choose Open Holidays as the platform.
  3. Publish the Data Mart and run it for the first import.
  4. Add a Connector Trigger to schedule recurring imports.

The connector documentation has the full setup guide.

R02 · Report

Build Reports With Open Holidays Data That Everyone Trusts

Once the calendar is in your warehouse, it behaves like any other table you own.

  • Join date and country to your orders and flag the days that were holidays.
  • Use nationwide to separate a national holiday from a regional one.
  • Compare a dip in demand with the calendar before anyone calls it a trend.
  • Define the join once in a Data Mart, so every report uses the same calendar.

R03 · Why OWOX

Deliver Open Holidays Data to the Tools Your Team Uses

A Report delivers one Data Mart to one destination, and each Data Mart can feed many destinations.

  • Push mode: OWOX writes the data on a manual or scheduled run. Google Sheets, email, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Google Chat work this way.
  • Pull mode: the tool asks OWOX for the data when a user refreshes it. Data Studio and Microsoft Excel work this way.
  • AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT read the Data Mart, not the raw tables, so answers use your definitions.

S03 · Eight outcomes

Why Use OWOX Connectors to Collect Your Open Holidays Data?

Real drop or calendar effect

Reference data tells a real drop in demand apart from a calendar effect.

Your data stays yours

The calendar sits in a warehouse you own. OWOX does not keep a copy.

No credentials to manage

The source is public reference data, so nothing secret sits in the connector.

Scheduled, not manual

A Connector Trigger refreshes the table on your schedule, so nobody retypes holiday lists.

Readable by anyone

The connector code is open source, so you can see exactly what it fetches.

Define once, reuse everywhere

One Data Mart with the calendar feeds Sheets, Excel, Data Studio and AI assistants.

Fewer unexplained variances

A shared calendar gives every report the same answer to why a day looked different.

Free of per-connector cost

All connectors are included in every OWOX Cloud plan.

A3re: trusting AI

“AI, by the nature of the models, will hallucinate. And because of that, you need something which will create guardrails to ensure that there are no hallucinations, that you can trust your data.”
C9re: one source of truth
Mark SimmonsMark SimmonsCMO, Pürblack®
“We had six or seven different channels and no single source of truth — it was almost impossible, a lot of guesswork.”

“We regained time. And time is the one resource that never comes back.”
